Obama-Clinton = Dream Ticket?

This is not a new idea, it has been discussed for months. Until now, I was totally against it, as I simply find myself unable to support Hillary Clinton after her behavior in this campaign (see my prior blog about this). However, in yesterday’s Times column, Andrew Sullivan brings up valid reasons why this just might be the right thing to do now.

This scares not just me, but as much as I hate it, the logic behind it is pretty much flawless, and others agree. The question is: Will Hillary go for it, or will she prefer the nuclear option? It’s this kind of behavior which makes me fear another Clinton administration, even though I was quite happy with the last.

It is absolutely unacceptable for Michigan and Florida to tilt the nomination to Hillary - they were told in advance that their delegations would not be seated if they broke the rules - and they broke them anyway. Here’s a quote from Hillary herself (listen in) from October 11th, 2007:

NHPR’s Laura Knoy: “So, if you value the DNC calendar, why not just pull out of Michigan? Why not just say, Hey Michigan, I’m off the ballot?”

Hillary Clinton: “Well, you know, It’s clear, this election they’re having is not going to count for anything”

After hearing that, listen to this:

A very adamant Clinton tells Inskeep that the Michigan results should count, even if Obama’s name did not appear on the ballot.

“That was his choice,” she says. “There was no rule or requirement that he take his name off the ballot.”

This demonstrates how sad it is that she might need to be in the VP slot for Obama to get the nomination and win the general election, but I think Sullivan is right. It’s also the only way I will consider voting for her. If she pulls the nuclear option and seats Michigan and Florida to win the nomination, I am definitely voting for McCain.

[…] Yes, we have certainly found out who she is in the past few months. She’s been incompetent in running her campaign, repeatedly been blatently dishonest while campaigning, and now chooses to ignore virtually every reputable economist on the planet because she thinks populism might win her the nomination.
